Pilgrims and Strangers

We have in our Western culture forgotten to be pilgrims and strangers because we have become so attracted to this world and to the things of the world that we have lost sight of the world to come…We have for the most part found life in the world to be very comfortable, so much so that we prefer not to leave it.

-Herman Hanko, from his “A Pilgrim’s Manual – commentary on 1 Peter, p.xx-xxi

All the Punishments of Hell…

“For the message of the Cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God!” 1 Corinthians 1:18

In the Cross of our dying Jesus, we have:
Salvation for the lost!
Pardon for the condemned!
Sanctification for the unholy!
Life for the dead!

All the punishments of hell can never give a more illustrious display of God’s infinite justice and holiness, and of the malignity of sin and His implacable hatred to it—than the Cross of Christ!
-Samuel Davies, “The Divine Perfections Illustrated in the Method of Salvation, Through the Sufferings of Christ”
